An exhibition of University of West London BA (Hons) Photography students’ Work in Progress

The diverse range of images in this exhibition represent a snapshot of work in progress on the BA (Hons) Photography course at the University of West London. Students from all three years of the course have contributed work, at various stages of development to this exhibition.

Alexandra, Irena and Rhiannon, display images exploring the architectural fabric of the city, alongside works by third year students Dayna and Natasha, who are both in the early stages of their self-initiated year-long final major projects.

In contrast, Lukasz has included work from an intimate narrative-based series for the Experimental Approaches module, while Stefania’s work explores masculinity in Gen Z adult males.

Students are encouraged to develop cohesive projects while studying on the course. The images included here are just small fragments from the larger bodies of work on which they are currently working.

Peter Bennett (Course Leader BA (Hons) Photography, UWL)

This exhibition is supported by the Creative People & Places Hounslow Visual Arts Programme of exhibitions and events in libraries, cafes and other public spaces across the borough.

REFLECTIVE SURFACES

This image is part of my series Reflective Surfaces for the module Technologies of Seeing. My intention is to explore the sense of spatial ambiguity that can be found in the multiple reflections created by the glazed surfaces of modern buildings.

IRENA LIMAR

FUTURISTIC SKYSCRAPER AT DUSK

This image is part of a series I am working on for the Technologies of Seeing module. It was taken in Canary Wharf, from a low angle at dusk. It depicts the tectonic, hi-tech towers that reach up towards the sky. The mixture of neon lights, fog, and night-time sky help to create a mysterious and futuristic atmosphere.

NEW PATH

With this project, I would like to tell the story of a person who wants to go on a new path in life, but is full of doubt. Doubt and concern for what the future will bring, and whether the existing baggage of experience will be useful on the newly chosen path. These photos can be seen as a portrait of a random person or my own self-portrait.

PROTECTED LAND

My Major Project will explore protected landscapes, such as the New Forest, and the issues of land use and ecology that surround them.

A CITY OF LAYERS

For the Technologies of Seeing module, I have been exploring the representation of the urban environment and the way that photography flattens three-dimensional space to transform the city into a collage  of layers.

STEFANIA CARLI

CHISOM FROM “GEN Z: ON MASCULINITIES”

This project explores how Generation Z males grew up influenced by stereotypes of masculinity and the pressure to project a strong image, without expressing weakness or emotion. Most of those who participated believe that the idea of gender is more fluid and don’t feel restricted by outdated ideologies.
